Skiing at Mt. Rose

tl

We took our time getting up and ready this morning and headed to Mt. Rose for a short afternoon ski time. Ama opted to sit at the lodge instead of skiing this time. It was a beautiful day, so she sat at the many, very full, picnic tables outside overlooking the bunny slopes with a book in hand.

However, as we were getting Ama settled, Abel was beside himself and asking for food. So Ama, Abel, and I shared a cheeseburger, chicken strips, and fries while everyone else got started on the bunny slopes to get refamiliarized with the whole skiing thing. Eventually we were able to spot Ava in her purple bib, green jacket, and neon beanie, the we rather easily spotted the others.

When we were done eating, Abel didn’t really want to ski and put his goggles and helmet back on, so I had to drag a crying child to the snow. Once there with his skis on, Trevor arrived and I passed Abel off to him so I could put on my snowblades and get myself steady on my feet.

I headed up on the magic carpet (like an escalator) and watched Trevor helping Abel down the slope. It was cute to see and reminded me of the many years ago when he did the same with Azri, probably wearing the exact same jacket too.

I took one run down to catch up with the others. The big kids were ready to move on to something more challenging and I preferred to have Trevor help Abel down one more time before I took over helping him down. Trevor is a much better teacher than I am when it comes to skiing. I tend to not allow the same freedom because I don’t want him flying down the mountain ahead of me, running into some unaware child or adult, topple over, lose his skis, etc. So I tried to help him learn while also straddling him and holding on to his jacket until I could see he couldn’t go too fast not run into someone. Overall, the few runs we took were fun. Trevor, Adeliza, Avalina, and Azrelius had a good time on the green run a couple times. The kids had improved since last time several years ago.

Abel fell asleep on the way to the car, Adi or Ama carried him. Then we stopped for special drinks at Starbucks for the drive back to the hotel.

We got dinner out and headed back to the hotel.

Tomorrow we’ll get up early to go to a snow park on our way home.
